The founder of Binance has urgent advice for crypto users: strengthen your credentials, avoid risky clicks, and adopt advanced security tools to stay ahead of relentless phishing attacks.

CZ Shares Key Tips on How to Stop Phishing Scams Targeting Crypto Users

Binance co-founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) shared a detailed set of recommendations focused on protecting users from phishing attacks on the social network X on Thursday. Addressing the crypto community, Zhao emphasized user responsibility and outlined basic measures that can significantly reduce security risks associated with account breaches and social engineering scams.

By emphasizing how imitation is a common tactic among cybercriminals, Zhao suggested:

Never give your password to the 'Helpdesk Agent.' Real support staff will never need it.

He further advised users to avoid clicking on links in emails, stating: 'Do not click on links you receive in emails. Access your account only by entering the URL or using a bookmark. Triple-check that it's not a phishing site before entering any passwords.'

These notes were aimed at minimizing exposure to fraudulent websites designed to collect user login credentials. He also emphasized critical steps to enhance personal security: 'DO NOT USE the same password on multiple websites. Use a password manager to have a unique and strong password for each site. Password managers will also not match the domain of the phishing site.' Zhao concluded with a call to adopt hardware security keys: 'Use hardware 2FA like Yubikey. These will prevent most phishing attacks.'

The topic of cybersecurity is gaining importance within the digital asset ecosystem, as threats evolve in both frequency and sophistication. Highly publicized breaches, targeted phishing campaigns, and malware designed to drain crypto wallets have prompted exchanges and users to adopt more robust defensive mechanisms. This week, Coinbase disclosed a data breach involving bribing foreign support agents, leading to unauthorized access to sensitive customer information. Regulatory agencies are also expanding guidelines on safe custody and consumer protection.

In response to the rising attacks, cryptocurrency users around the world are strengthening their security habits, with Binance reporting significant improvements, especially in Asia. A recent study based on nearly 30,000 responses revealed that 80.5% of Asian users enable two-factor authentication, yet advanced tools like anti-phishing codes (21.5%) and whitelisting (17.6%) have low adoption. Despite the gaps, Binance found that 84% trust the protective measures of exchanges, while 62.5% prefer threat capture, highlighting the growing demand for smarter and more protective platforms.
