Leadership Under Fire: Ethereum Responds to Criticism

At the 2025 Consensus Conference held in Toronto, Ethereum broke its silence. In the face of criticism regarding its governance, technical roadmap, and talent drain, Paul Brody from Ernst & Young and Josh Stark from the Ethereum Foundation defended a clear vision: a complex yet fundamentally resilient network. Despite stagnant ETH prices and increasing competition, Ethereum's leaders are focused on long-term development, reminding everyone that the market will eventually catch up with technology, rather than technology catching up with the market.

While recent news about Ethereum has primarily centered on the continued decline of ETH prices and a noticeable decrease in developer participation, the criticism has focused on a sensitive point: the governance of the Ethereum Foundation.

Paul Brody, chairman of the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance and a key figure at Ernst & Young, took this opportunity to praise the work of former Executive Director Aya Miyaguchi: "Objectively looking at her achievements during her tenure, I give her an A+,” he stated.

Here are the main points regarding Ethereum's network governance:

Structural Criticism: Lack of coordination, strategic ambiguity, and loss of momentum compared to more agile competitors; Internal Response: Acknowledgment of the need to strengthen leadership and improve communication around the project's fundamental principles; Management Assessment: Aya Miyaguchi has defended its mission since taking office in 2018, bringing profound changes to the foundation; Recent Restructuring: The appointment of two co-Executive Directors, Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz Stańczak, in March 2025 to plan the next phase of strategic development.
