US Loses Last Top Credit Rating With Downgrade From Moody’s.

American agency Moody's Investors Service today lowered the credit rating of the United States from the highest level Aaa to Aa1, Reuters and AFP agencies report. This is the first such step since Donald Trump took office as US president in January.

Moody's was the last of the three major rating agencies to rate the US at the highest level.

The White House rejected the rating cut, Reuters reports. White House communications director Steven Cheung criticized the agency's chief economist Mark Zandi.

"Nobody takes 'these analyses' seriously. They have repeatedly proven to be wrong," Cheung wrote on the social network X. He called Zandi a longtime opponent of US President Donald Trump.
