#EthereumSecurityInitiative
The Ethereum Foundation launched the Trillion Dollar Security (1TS) Initiative on May 14, 2025, to enhance Ethereum’s security for global-scale adoption. The goal is to make Ethereum secure enough for billions of users to store over $1,000 on-chain and for institutions to hold over $1 trillion in a single contract or application.Key Points:Three-Phase Plan:Mapping: Assess vulnerabilities across Ethereum’s tech stack (UX, wallets, smart contracts, infrastructure, consensus, etc.) and create a security overview report.Execution: Implement fixes for critical issues and invest in long-term improvements.Communication: Transparently share Ethereum’s security standards with users and institutions.Leadership: Co-chaired by Fredrik Svantes (Protocol Security Lead) and Josh Stark (EF management), with ecosystem stewards samczsun (Security Alliance), Mehdi Zerouali (Sigma Prime), and Zach Obront (Etherealize).Community Input: The initiative invites feedback from users, developers, and security firms to shape the roadmap.Context: Despite Ethereum’s strong security, frequent hacks (e.g., smart contracts, bridges) highlight the need for upgrades to support DeFi, tokenized assets, and institutional use.
