Mastercard accelerates the adoption of stablecoins: On May 15, 2025, it announced a new partnership with MoonPay to launch virtual cards that enable wallets to spend USDC and others directly at any merchant that supports Mastercard, with instant conversion to the local currency at the point of sale. This move comes just two weeks after Mastercard unveiled the 'Wallet-to-Store' system that supports stablecoin transactions from start to finish, and includes the launch of a global card in collaboration with the OKX platform.

These initiatives put Mastercard in direct competition with Visa for dominance in the crypto payments sector, and herald a future where stablecoins become a seamless bridge between digital assets and everyday spending.
