#EthereumSecurityInitiative The centralized exchange (CEX) Binance has announced the launch of a global initiative to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Bitcoin Pizza Day, with a BTC reward worth 5 million USD. According to the platform, this is the largest Bitcoin giveaway event ever. This campaign honors the widely known transaction that took place on May 22, 2010, when Laszlo Hanyecz used 10,000 BTC - then valued at around 40 USD - to purchase two pizzas, marking one of the first examples of using Bitcoin as a medium of exchange in the real economy.
"From two pizzas to a global financial movement, the journey of cryptocurrency is truly remarkable - and our community has been the driving force," Rachel Conlan, Binance's Chief Marketing Officer, said in a written statement. "This year, we will celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day with the largest BTC introduction event in history - worth 5 million USD - along with over 26 meetups and local social activities. This is how we honor the journey so far while inviting millions of others to join the world of cryptocurrency," she added.
Taking place from May 15 to May 28, 2025, the campaign allows participants to refer others to the Binance platform through a time-limited referral link. To acknowledge the original trading history of Bitcoin, BTC has been chosen as the reward asset, with a maximum reward of 40 USD for each referral pair. Both the referrer and the invitee can receive a Pizza Box reward worth up to 20 USD in BTC.
