In a major shake-up of Russia’s military leadership, President Vladimir Putin has replaced General Oleg Salyukov as the head of the Russian Ground Forces, appointing him to a new role as Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council.
Salyukov, who had led the Ground Forces since 2014, is stepping into the powerful civilian post just days before turning 70 — the official retirement age for military service in Russia. The Kremlin did not offer a specific reason for his reassignment.
Succeeding him is Colonel General Andrey Mordvichev, a high-profile commander known for overseeing key Russian operations during the war in Ukraine.
