Day-1

The night was already late, and I was still constantly refreshing Twitter on my computer. Some bearish tweets made me feel somewhat amused.

“Knock knock knock,” the sudden sound of knocking interrupted my thoughts.

“Coming!” I shouted towards the door while extinguishing the cigarette in my hand, then prepared to get up to open the door. Just then, I inadvertently glanced at the time displayed in the bottom right corner of my computer—it was 1 AM.

I instantly became alert, “Who would come to my house knocking in the middle of the night?” Thinking this, I didn't open the door directly but bent down to look through the peephole.

The hallway outside the door was pitch black, and the motion-sensor light did not turn on, making it seem like no one had been there. “Did I hear it wrong?” I wondered.

“Gurgle...” At this moment, the sound from my stomach reminded me that I hadn't had dinner yet. “I guess I'm starving,” I chuckled self-deprecatingly and turned to the fridge to take out the half piece of pizza left from lunch. I took a bite, and it was still a bit cool when I took it out, with a slightly hard texture.

I casually picked up the water cup on the table and took a sip, feeling a bit clearer in my head. I didn't know if it was psychological, but the previously bloated feeling in my head felt slightly alleviated, and the drowsiness that had been overwhelming me was somewhat suppressed. Rationality regained control of my mind.

Ding! What is this? The sound suddenly coming from the computer caught my attention.

A tweet from @binancezh two days ago suddenly appeared on my computer, offering 100 pieces of merchandise.

“Cut,” I said dismissively, because I had never won prizes from these activities, “they're just toys for those lucky people,” I couldn't help but mutter to myself. I casually clicked on the account of the first sister and cz to see if there was any new information.

“Knock knock knock,” while I was browsing, there was another gentle knock at the door. Due to the previous experience, I didn't respond this time, carefully trying to identify the source of the sound. “Knock knock knock... knock knock knock.”

This time I heard it clearly; I was sure I wasn't imagining it. Someone was really knocking at the door.

I hesitated; the prominent clock on my computer reminded me that this was a bit strange. This time, I cautiously got up, ensuring I made no sound as I moved towards the door. “Knock knock knock... knock knock knock” The person on the other side seemed a bit impatient, and the knocking became increasingly urgent.

After much effort, I finally moved to the door. The moment I leaned to look through the peephole, the knocking suddenly stopped, and the outside was still pitch dark.

I was a bit scared; there was nothing shameful about it. Anyone who encountered such a situation wouldn't remain calm. My mind raced, and the words “call the police” popped into my head. Yes, call the police!

Just as I turned to grab my phone, the sound of “knock knock knock... knock knock knock” rang out again from behind me, and the hairs on my neck stood up. Cold sweat instantly soaked my clothes.

That sound seemed to come from inside the door.
