Coinbase announced that it suffered a cyber attack that led to the leak of data from a limited number of users, due to the collusion of some support staff after they were bribed.

The company confirmed that data such as names, addresses, and email addresses were leaked, but reassured users that passwords or two-factor authentication keys were not compromised. It pledged to compensate the affected users who were deceived, and also offered a reward of up to $20 million for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

The attack came after months of warnings about fraud through social engineering, and the company announced the immediate termination of the involved employees, and filed lawsuits.
