Meet the Man Who Bought TWO PIZZAS for 10,000 BTC… Yes, Really.
So there was this dude — Laszlo Hanyecz (legend or lunatic, you decide). One fine day, he pops into a forum and casually drops this bomb:
> “I’ll pay 10,000 BTC for two pizzas.”
At that time, 10,000 BTC was like... $25. Yep. Basically couch change.
Some internet hero replies, orders two Papa John’s pizzas (extra cheese, I hope), and gets them delivered straight to Laszlo’s place in sunny Florida. Laszlo, being a man of his word, sends over the 10,000 BTC using a fresh-out-the-box command-line wallet, and boom — pizza acquired.
Cut to a few years later…
Drumroll, please — those same 10,000 BTC are worth TENS. OF. MILLIONS.
(And now? Over $1 BILLION if BTC’s around $100,000. insert dramatic scream)
May 22 is now celebrated as “Bitcoin Pizza Day”, a delicious reminder of possibly the most expensive lunch in human history.
Just imagine:
> 2 pizzas = a mega mansion, private jet, Lambo, and your own theme park.
Laszlo probably wakes up every May 22 like:
“WHY DIDN’T I JUST MAKE A SANDWICH?!”
Cue dramatic staring into the distance.
So... can he ever forgive himself?
Maybe. Maybe not.
But hey — at least he was the first to buy something real with crypto!
Moral of the story:
Sometimes it’s not just about the dough…
It’s about the actual dough.
Reactions:
Crypto bros: “He’s a pioneer!”
Everyone else: “BROOOOOOOO!”
Laszlo: “Pass me another slice and don’t talk about it.”
