Laszlo Hanyecz is a name forever etched in cryptocurrency history. Why? Because he was the first person to make a real-world purchase using Bitcoin—10,000 BTC for two pizzas.

Here's what happened:

In May 2010, Laszlo posted on a Bitcoin forum saying:

“I’ll pay 10,000 BTC for two pizzas.”

At the time, 10,000 BTC was worth around $25—just pocket change.

A fellow forum user accepted the offer, ordered two Papa John’s pizzas, and had them delivered to Laszlo’s home in Florida.

Laszlo transferred the 10,000 BTC using a simple command-line wallet—and just like that, he got his lunch.
