According to a Cointelegraph report, the evolution of Bitcoin is entering a new phase, focusing on its possibilities beyond being a digital currency. In a recent episode of the podcast "The Clear Crypto," hosts Nathan Jeffay and Gareth Jenkinson discussed this development with Isabel Foxen Duke, a partner at "Unbroken Chain" and a veteran advocate for Bitcoin. Duke refers to this phase as the "second season of Bitcoin," emphasizing the exploration of Bitcoin's capabilities that go beyond its traditional role as a store of value.
Duke noted the emergence of new solutions such as ranking numbers, runes, and decentralized finance (DeFi) tools that expand Bitcoin's functions. An important innovation being discussed is trustless lending, which allows users to borrow against their Bitcoin holdings without the need for external intermediaries. Duke highlighted the significance of this capability, as it is second only to payments in terms of practical applications. Discrete Log Contracts (DLCs) are one of the solutions being worked on, enabling users to maintain control over their Bitcoins while using them as collateral. The repayment process is carried out using smart contract logic, eliminating the need for a central authority and instead relying on mathematical proof.
