📰 Authorities dismantle a cryptocurrency 'farm' on a farm in Totana
The Civil Guard has dismantled a sophisticated cryptocurrency mining facility on a farm in Totana, discovered during operation 'Crip'. The investigation began in March after detecting suspicious activities on an apparently abandoned citrus farm, where a recently constructed agricultural building with powerful air conditioning and surveillance systems was found. Although initially there was suspicion of a marijuana plantation, this hypothesis was discarded, leading to the discovery of a cryptocurrency 'farm' with around 50 mining rigs and more than 100 graphics cards, valued at about 100,000 euros. The operation also uncovered an illegal connection to the electrical grid, through a sophisticated system of underground cables, which led to the investigation of the farm's owner for an alleged crime of electricity fraud. The system was disconnected and the investigation is still ongoing, with new actions not ruled out.
