Actress Hwang Jung-eum is accused of embezzling funds from the brokerage firm she controls to invest in cryptocurrency. The Jeju District Court held its first trial session on May 15. According to the indictment, from the beginning of 2022 to December, Hwang embezzled a total of 4.34 billion won, of which 4.2 billion won was used to invest in cryptocurrency.
Hwang Jung-eum's lawyer admitted to the actions, stating that the investment was aimed at developing the company, while emphasizing that the profits of the company ultimately belong to Hwang. Currently, Hwang has partially compensated for the damages by selling cryptocurrency and plans to sell real estate. The court has allowed the compensation procedures to continue.
