The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released the April 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) report at 8:30 AM local time on May 13, showing that:
April CPI performance: Overall CPI grew 2.3% year-on-year, below market expectations of 2.4%, the lowest level since February 2021, further slowing down from 2.4% in March; the month-on-month growth was 0.2%, slightly up from a 0.1% decline in March.
April core CPI performance: Core CPI (excluding food and energy) grew 2.8% year-on-year, in line with expectations and stable compared to March. Month-on-month growth was 0.2%, in line with market expectations.
April CPI performance: Overall CPI grew 2.3% year-on-year, below market expectations of 2.4%, the lowest level since February 2021, further slowing down from 2.4% in March; the month-on-month growth was 0.2%, slightly up from a 0.1% decline in March.
April core CPI performance: Core CPI (excluding food and energy) grew 2.8% year-on-year, in line with expectations and stable compared to March. Month-on-month growth was 0.2%, in line with market expectations.
