Inflation over 12 months in the United States moderated in April to 2.3% due to a drop in fuel prices, although the figure is somewhat above what analysts expected, according to official data published this Tuesday.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April was slightly below the 2.4% annual rate recorded in March, the Department of Labor reported in a statement.

The data, slightly below what analysts expected, encompasses the period when tariffs imposed by the government of Donald Trump on imports came into effect, including exorbitant fees on China - eased in recent days - which shook financial markets and raised fears of a price escalation.

This was the smallest price increase measured over 12 months since February 2021.
