**Moldovan Man Arrested for €4.5M DoppelPaymer Ransomware Attack on Dutch Institutions**

A 45-year-old man has been arrested in Moldova for his role in a 2021 ransomware attack using DoppelPaymer malware that targeted multiple Dutch institutions, including the Netherlands' top science agency, the Dutch Research Council (NWO).

The attack severely disrupted NWO operations, forcing the agency offline and leaking internal documents after it refused to pay a ransom. The damage was estimated at €4.5 million.

This arrest is part of a broader international crackdown on the DoppelPaymer group, which has targeted over 600 organizations globally. Authorities in Germany, Ukraine, and now Moldova have collaborated to dismantle the network and bring its members to justice.

The case highlights the ongoing threat posed by ransomware and the importance of global cooperation in combating cybercrime.
