In May 2025, important events took place in Washington dedicated to shaping future policy in the field of cryptocurrencies. Regulators, lawmakers, and key figures from the crypto industry participated to jointly determine the directions for the development of digital assets.
🔹 Key Issues on the Agenda
1. New SEC Strategy for Crypto Regulation
The newly elected chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Paul Atkins, presented plans to update the regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies. He emphasized the importance of creating clear and transparent rules covering the registration, issuance, storage, and trading of digital assets. According to Atkins, the SEC has sufficient authority to clarify regulations in this area, including defining exceptions for assets that are not securities and developing recommendations for those that fall under this definition. Among his proposals are more flexible conditions for asset storage for registered market participants, as well as expanding trading opportunities.
