US and China Temporarily Reduce Tariffs - Markets React with Growth

On May 12, 2025, the US and China announced a temporary reduction in mutual tariffs for 90 days. American tariffs on Chinese goods will be reduced from 145% to 30%, and Chinese tariffs from 125% to 10%. This agreement was the result of negotiations between the administration of President Donald Trump and the leadership of China.

Against the backdrop of this news, markets responded with growth: the Dow Jones added 1,160 points, the S&P 500 rose by 3.3%, and the Nasdaq by 4.4%. Stocks in the tech sector, including Apple, Amazon, and Dell, showed particularly noticeable growth.

However, experts warn that this is only a temporary relief. The main problems in the trade relations remain unresolved, and the situation could escalate again in three months.

In parallel, the US and UK have reached a trade deal covering steel, cars and agricultural products, which has also caused a mixed reaction.
