Metaplanet Becomes Largest Corporate Bitcoin Holder with $126.7 Million Acquisition
Metaplanet, a Tokyo-based technology investment firm, has significantly expanded its cryptocurrency portfolio with the purchase of 1,241 Bitcoins valued at approximately $126.7 million. This acquisition marks the largest single Bitcoin purchase to date and brings the firm’s total holdings to 6,796 BTC—surpassing the national holdings of El Salvador.
The company has outlined an ambitious target of reaching 10,000 BTC by the end of 2026 as part of its long-term digital asset strategy. Over the past year, Metaplanet’s Bitcoin investments have generated a return of 170%, while its stock price has surged by 1,700% since mid-2024, reflecting growing investor confidence.
The announcement coincides with Bitcoin’s recent price rally to $105,000, fueled by rising institutional demand and optimism surrounding improving trade relations between the United States and China.
