Deep Tide TechFlow News, on May 13, according to Decrypt, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced the appointment of Andrew Charlton as Assistant Minister for Technology, Digital Economy, and as Cabinet Secretary. As a former Cyber Security and Digital Resilience Envoy, Charlton will work with Minister for Industry Tim Ayres to focus on new technologies, artificial intelligence, and their impact on the economy.
It is reported that this appointment is an important initiative by the Australian government to advance digital asset regulation. According to a joint statement released in March this year, Australia plans to establish a regulatory framework consistent with the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and Singapore's Payment Services Act. The new rules require major cryptocurrency platforms to obtain an Australian financial services license, while small businesses and non-financial service organizations may be exempt. Relevant legislative drafts are expected to be released later this year.
