#Trump wins #TariffWar

I see the tariff reduction as a complete victory for Trump — a very subtle psychological move. It’s like saying something costs $1000, but “just for you,” I’ll sell it for $200. In the end, the buyer feels happy, and so does the seller.

So, the 145% tariff proposed by Trump and the negotiated 30% likely follow the same psychological logic.

This move is known as anchoring. Anchoring is a cognitive bias where the first number mentioned serves as an “anchor” and heavily influences the perception of subsequent offers. Even if the initial figure is artificially inflated, everything that follows seems more favorable by comparison.

The U.S. “anchors” the tariff at 145%.

Then reduces it to 30% — and China perceives it as a concession or a win,

Even though the original demand may have been a strategic exaggeration.

This can also be seen as part of the “illusion of concession” in negotiations — where one side pretends to compromise, but in reality, always planned to reach that exact result.
