Zelensky wrote in a social media post on Sunday morning, "It is a positive sign that the Russians have finally begun to consider ending the war". His comments come after Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Ukraine to take part in "serious negotiations" on Thursday in a late-night address.

But the Ukrainian president said, "We expect Russia to confirm a ceasefire – complete, lasting and credible – starting tomorrow, May 12 and Ukraine is ready to meet."
