Back in 2010, a programmer named Laszlo Hanyecz made the first-ever real-world Bitcoin transaction — and it involved two pizzas.

Laszlo offered 10,000 BTC to anyone who’d deliver him two pizzas. Someone took the deal, bought two Papa John’s pizzas for about $41, and received the 10,000 bitcoins in return.

At the time, it seemed like a fair trade. But in 2025, those same 10,000 BTC are now worth over $600 million!

Every May 22, the crypto world celebrates Bitcoin Pizza Day, a legendary moment that reminds us how far Bitcoin has come — and how costly a slice can be in hindsight.
