On May 9, 2025 – The situation in the Taiwan Strait continues to escalate as the People's Liberation Army (PLA) conducts a large-scale exercise with the scenario of surrounding Taiwan Island from multiple directions. This is the most tense military move since the beginning of 2025, immediately after Taiwan hosted a delegation of U.S. lawmakers.

According to the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, the exercise named 'Thunder Sword 3' lasts for two days, mobilizing more than 60 fighter jets, dozens of warships, cruise missiles, and landing units. Air units conducted simulations of precision strikes on coastal targets, while the navy simultaneously approached three sides of Taiwan Island, practicing maritime blockades and preventing reinforcements from outside.
