Law Enforcement Mistakenly Detains Former Yuga Labs Researcher in NFT Scam Probe

Authorities mistakenly detained Sam Curry, a former Yuga Labs security researcher, in connection with a 2022 Bored Ape NFT theft worth over $1 million, according to Cointelegraph. Cybersecurity analyst ZachXBT revealed on May 9 that Curry was wrongly identified due to misinterpreted OpenSea logs showing his IP address. Curry was actually investigating the theft at the time.

The real suspect was traced through forensic blockchain analysis, including Tornado Cash transactions, and linked to a now-deleted X account. The incident highlights the difficulties in cybercrime investigations. Bored Ape NFTs, launched in 2021, still trade for around $30,000 each.
