President Donald Trump continues to criticize Fed Chairman Jerome Powell for not lowering interest rates, calling him an “idiot” and “clueless” on social media platform Truth Social. Trump argues that Powell is slow to respond, saying “talking to him is like talking to a wall” and nicknames him “Late Powell.”

While other central banks like the UK and China have cut interest rates, the Fed still maintains a target interest rate of 4.25–4.5%, claiming it is appropriate to balance maximum employment and inflation control. The FOMC stated that the risks of unemployment and inflation are both increasing, making the Fed more cautious. The interest rate has been held steady since December after a slight cut. Nevertheless, Trump asserts that the strength of the U.S. economy remains robust despite the Fed's “delayed” policies.
