According to PANews, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that Mohammed Azharuddin Chhipa, a 35-year-old resident of Virginia, has been sentenced to 30 years and 4 months in prison for financing the terrorist organization ISIS. Evidence presented in court revealed that between October 2019 and October 2022, Chhipa raised funds through social media and traveled hundreds of miles to collect cash. He then converted over $185,000 into cryptocurrency, which was transferred to Turkey and ultimately reached ISIS members in Syria. These funds were used to support ISIS militants and to rescue detained female members. In December 2024, a federal jury found him guilty on five counts, including conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization.
