🇧🇴 Bolivia launches digital currency for cross-border payments.
The Central Bank of Bolivia has announced the launch of the ‘virtual boliviano’ — a digital currency for international payments. The presentation is scheduled for August 6, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the country’s independence.
The goal is to reduce dollar dependency and free up foreign currency reserves. The project is supported by international organizations.
Bolivia has also begun using stablecoins as an alternative to the dollar amid a cash currency shortage.
