Argentine Authorities Declassify and Publish Over 1,850 Documents on Naz1 Activity in the Country

The released materials are compiled into several dossiers and cover not only the activities of Naz1 criminals who fled to South America after World War II but also actions of Argentine military forces during the dictatorship of 1976–1983. The declassification was ordered by President Javier Milei.

Through the so-called "ratlines," around 10,000 Naz1s fled to Argentina and other countries in the region after the war. They were assisted by various individuals, including representatives of the Vatican, who helped forge false documents.

Among the criminals who hid in South America were notorious figures such as Dr. Josef Mengele, Holocaust organizer Adolf Eichmann, the "Butcher of Lyon" Klaus Barbie, and the "Butcher of Riga" Eduard Roschmann.

The declassified materials also include information on Gestapo officer Erich Priebke, responsible for mass executions in Rome in 1944, and Walter Kutschmann, involved in the murder of thousands of Jews in Poland and who hid in Argentina under a false identity.
