Shock! Binance founder Zhao Changpeng applies to Trump for a pardon for money laundering charges!
Recently, Binance founder Zhao Changpeng (CZ) made a shocking revelation, confirming that he has applied to former President Donald Trump for a pardon for his money laundering charges. Although he had previously denied related reports, Zhao Changpeng stated in an interview with Farokh Radio that his lawyer has formally submitted the pardon application on his behalf.
Zhao Changpeng revealed that while he had previously denied seeking a pardon, he decided to take action after media reports surfaced. He also pointed out that Trump has pardoned others, including BitMEX founder Arthur Hayes, which led him to believe that applying to Trump for a pardon was a reasonable choice.
In 2023, Zhao Changpeng acknowledged the money laundering charges related to Binance and reached a settlement with U.S. authorities, resulting in fines of up to $4.3 billion, with Zhao personally bearing a $50 million fine and resigning as CEO of Binance. Although Zhao Changpeng is still a shareholder of Binance, he stated that he has no plans to return to the CEO position.
Although a pardon would not nullify the money laundering charges, if approved, Zhao Changpeng might have the opportunity to resume operational duties at Binance.US.
