MEME Act Law
The MEME Act Law (short for Mitigating Excessive Market Emotions) is a legislative proposal that emerged following the rise of what are known as meme stocks, such as GameStop and AMC, which experienced irrational price increases due to grassroots campaigns on social media platforms like Reddit and TikTok.
The aim of the law is to mitigate the impact of collective emotional influence on financial markets by monitoring misleading financial content, enforcing transparency among financial influencers, and protecting new investors from manipulation and sharp volatility.
While some view it as a necessary step to regulate markets, others believe it may limit freedom of expression and restrict individual participation in the market. The law remains a topic of discussion among regulatory bodies and the financial community.
