Tesla's sales in China have been declining for the seventh consecutive month amid growing competition from local brands, primarily BYD.
According to the China Passenger Car Association, Tesla shipped 58,459 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles from its Shanghai factory in April. This is a 6% decrease compared to April 2024.
Tesla's sales in the first quarter of 2025 were the lowest in the last three years. In some markets, the situation is even worse: only 863 vehicles were registered in France last month, and 500 in Australia, which is a 76% decrease compared to last year.
The greatest pressure on Tesla in China comes from BYD, which achieved its best monthly result of the year in April. The manufacturer continues to confidently move towards its goal of 5.5 million deliveries for the year.
In April, Tesla's sales of new cars in Spain decreased by 36% compared to the same month last year - down to 571 vehicles.
In March, Tesla's sales of new cars in Europe fell by 28.2% compared to the same month last year, although overall sales of electric vehicles (battery-powered) in the region increased by 23.6%.
