The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has filed a motion in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to withdraw its previously initiated appeal against the prediction platform Kalshi.
In the statement, the regulator asked the court to voluntarily dismiss the appeal of the federal court's decision that ruled the CFTC's request to prohibit Kalshi from offering contracts on political events was unlawful. The platform's team has agreed not to seek reimbursement for its expenses and legal costs.
Initially, Kalshi sued the CFTC in 2023 after the regulator demanded to stop trading contracts on political topics. The platform won the case in the lower court, after which the CFTC filed an appeal in September 2024. A change in leadership at the Commission led to a reassessment of the regulator's position.
