Bitcoin whales from the Satoshi era awaken! Two wallets that have been dormant for more than 10 years suddenly transferred $324 million in BTC
Recently, two Bitcoin wallets related to Silk Road suddenly "awoke" after more than a decade of dormancy and transferred $324 million worth of Bitcoin, which also attracted widespread attention from the market!
On May 6, blockchain analysis company Spot On Chain reported that a wallet marked "1NWPS" transferred 2,343 Bitcoins worth about $222.2 million. Surprisingly, the funds have been dormant in the wallet for more than ten years.
Another wallet named "1PiEK" also transferred 1,079 Bitcoins worth about $102.5 million. It is worth noting that the last activity record of this wallet dates back nearly 12 years ago, which is longer than the previous wallet.
Independent blockchain analyst Sani believes that these wallets may be related to Silk Road. Silk Road is a once-popular but now-defunct darknet market that relied heavily on Bitcoin in its early days. By looking at the historical transaction records of these wallets, Sani found that they were related to the Silk Road in 2012.
Sani pointed out that some of the funds recently moved came from a large transaction of 10,000 BTC (TXID: 53952c…), which is believed to be related to Silk Road. These funds were later dispersed to multiple addresses, including the two wallets that were recently reactivated.
Sani also mentioned that there was an earlier transaction involving 19,940 BTC (TXID: 8b555a…), part of which ended up in a separate wallet. This wallet was later seized by the US government after the arrest of Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht.
So, these recent movements are the first activity in these two wallets in 12 years. The ultimate identity of the entity or individual who moved these long-idle funds is still unclear, but it is certain that the source of these funds is related to Silk Road.
What stories do you think might be hidden behind the transfer of these funds? Is someone cleaning up old assets, or is there some other unknown purpose? Please leave your opinions and views in the comment section!
