🇮🇳 India’s Missile Strikes: Operation Sindoor
On May 6, India launched “Operation Sindoor,” targeting nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. These strikes were in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 civilians and was claimed by The Resistance Front, a group linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. India asserts that the operation targeted terrorist infrastructure and avoided Pakistani military facilities. The Indian military reported eliminating 17 militants and injuring 60 others.
🇵🇰 Pakistan’s Response and Civilian Impact
Pakistan condemned the strikes as an unprovoked “act of war,” reporting at least three civilian deaths, including a child, and over a dozen injuries. The Pakistani military claimed to have shot down two Indian jets and a drone. In response, Pakistan declared a state of emergency in Punjab and suspended commercial flights.
⚠️ Ongoing Border Skirmishes
Following the missile strikes, both nations have engaged in exchanges of fire across the Line of Control. Pakistan reported that Indian missiles hit locations in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and in the country’s eastern Punjab province.
🌐 International Reactions
The United Nations Secretary-General expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict, urging both nations to exercise maximum restraint. U.S. President Donald Trump labeled India’s strikes as “a shame” and called for a swift resolution to the conflict.
