We fear the agreement between the USA and China,' says Lupion about the possibility of Brazil being left out
The Parliamentary Front for Agriculture (FPA) and representatives of the Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil (CNA) warned about the risks of the country losing ground in international trade amid uncertainties in the relations between China and the United States.
At an event promoted by the CNA/Senar System, in partnership with Estadão and Broadcast, in São Paulo, the president of the FPA, Pedro Lupion, emphasized that, although the moment presents opportunities for Brazil with the increase in agricultural exports to the Asian country, the possibility of an agreement between the Chinese and the Americans is concerning.
“We fear an agreement between the United States and China. Brazil could suffer a real earthquake if it is left out of a major deal and loses an important market,” the deputy stated.
According to him, today 52% of Brazilian agricultural commodities are sold to China, which creates a significant dependency. “It is necessary to maintain good relations with the Chinese to ensure supplies,” he added.
On the CNA side, president João Martins reinforced that China “is prepared for any situation that arises” and expects Brazil to maintain its position as a reliable supplier. Commenting on a recent meeting with the Chinese ambassador in Brazil, Martins reported that the message was clear: the Chinese are attentive to any changes in the scenario.
Former Minister of Agriculture Tereza Cristina also participated in the discussions and noted that China has resumed purchasing significant volumes of beef and soy from Brazil. According to her, the Asian country follows a clear strategy of protection. “China has food storage to protect itself from any eventual scenario.
