Worldcoin steps in: World sponsors the South American Cup with innovative technology
The company World, responsible for the cryptocurrency Worldcoin, has formed an unprecedented partnership with CONMEBOL, becoming the official sponsor of the South American Cup for the 2025 and 2026 editions. The agreement aims to integrate identity verification technology into sporting events, promoting a more inclusive and secure digital economy.
During more than 50 matches of the tournament, World will implement World ID, an anonymous digital credential that confirms the unique identity of each fan through iris scanning, using devices called Orbs. This initiative will allow fans to participate in exclusive experiences, such as ticket giveaways, meet-and-greets with football idols, and interactions with the competition trophy.
Additionally, World will have a prominent presence in stadiums, on LED panels, advertising boards, and on CONMEBOL's digital platforms. Notably, the company holds exclusive rights over VAR decisions, integrating the “proof of humanity” in the analysis of the most decisive plays.
According to Alejandro Domínguez, president of CONMEBOL, the partnership with World reinforces the entity's commitment to enhancing the fan experience while preserving the authenticity and passion that characterize South American football. For World, this collaboration represents a significant step in building a digital infrastructure that values the identity and trust of individuals.
