Representative Maxine Waters, the prominent Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, is opposing efforts to hold a joint hearing between her committee and the House Agriculture Committee to discuss the recently unveiled market structure bill on Monday.
Under House rules, all participants in the joint hearing must agree to move forward. A Democratic staffer told CoinDesk that Waters will object to the joint hearing and will prevent it from proceeding as planned, citing President Donald Trump's recent increased engagement in the cryptocurrency space.
