This commitment, revealed during Teacher Appreciation Week, will primarily be distributed in Ripple USD (RLUSD), representing a new step in the stablecoin-based charitable funding sector. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the organizations Donorschoose and Teach For America will accept the majority of the $25 million grant in the form of Ripple USD (RLUSD), which is Ripple's stablecoin backed by the US dollar.
This funding is designed to address widespread dissatisfaction with the U.S. education system, which continues to suffer from resource constraints and ongoing inequality. A 2024 Gallup poll showed that 55% of Americans are dissatisfied with the state of education from kindergarten to 12th grade. Ripple's initiative aims to directly help students and teachers by supporting classroom projects, expanding tutoring programs through the "Teach For America" initiative, and launching new efforts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and financial literacy across the country. The announcement highlighted the burden many teachers face, including spending their own money on supplies, and the growing role of digital assets in providing assistance efficiently.
