Ouroboros Leios is a large-scale upgrade that aims to push the current limits of Cardano. This improvement is designed to provide faster and more efficient block processing, allowing the Cardano blockchain to scale to support a higher volume of transactions and decentralized applications.
Additionally, it seeks to ensure that Cardano maintains its fundamental principle of decentralization without compromising security. Leios is not just a technical upgrade; it is considered a cornerstone for enabling the growth of Decentralized Finance (DeFi) on Cardano.
"Leios was the most complex and probably the most elegant document we have ever written, because it is part of a telescopic protocol. Leios extends Praos and operates within those same models and security constraints," revealed Hoskinson.
By offering greater capacity and speed, Cardano will be able to compete with other high-performance blockchains like Ethereum, which currently dominates the decentralized finance space.
The development process for Ouroboros Leios is still in its early stages, so it is likely to take at least one or two years before the upgrade is ready for full release.
