🪙 Ethereum to Deploy Pectra Upgrade This Week
After several delays, from late 2024 to Q1/2025, the Pectra upgrade is expected to be officially launched on May 7.
Pectra includes 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), focusing on 3 main goals:
1️⃣Improve staking: increase staking limit from 32 to 2,048 $ETH , help validators merge multiple nodes → simplify operations, save time (EIP-7251)
2️⃣ Upgrade wallet: turn wallet into smart contract, towards "account abstraction" → allow gas fee to be paid with tokens other than $ETH (EIP-7702)
3️⃣ Optimize overall network performance: increase blob capacity and optimize blocks → the network processes more transactions at lower costs, especially on L2 (EIP-7691, EIP-7623)
This is considered the biggest upgrade of Ethereum since The Merge (2022).
