Bitcoin is the Core of a Serious Crypto Portfolio
Renowned investor Kevin O’Leary has reaffirmed his bullish stance on $BTC , calling it the "core of any serious crypto portfolio" and the primary entry point for institutional investors.
In a recent interview with CoinDesk, O’Leary highlighted how Bitcoin has begun to decouple from traditional stock indices, suggesting that it’s maturing into an independent asset class. He likened its evolving role to gold, noting that institutions now see it as both a store of value and a hedging instrument.
Revealing his own allocation, O’Leary stated that Bitcoin makes up 1.5% of his portfolio, while crypto-related holdings total 19%, including shares in infrastructure firms like Coinbase and Robinhood. He believes these companies will benefit most once clear legislation—such as the Genius Act and the Stablecoin Act—is passed.
He stressed that when institutions enter crypto, Bitcoin—not Ethereum—is the default choice. “You don’t buy ETH until you understand what it does,” he said. “Why just $ETH and not L2s? That’s the real investor dilemma.”
Finally, O’Leary predicted hundreds of billions of dollars are poised to enter the crypto market once regulatory clarity and accounting standards are in place—and Bitcoin will be the first stop for that capital.
