Apple forced to tighten its rules on crypto-related apps

A court ruling is being hailed as a "real turning point for crypto," according to one industry commentator, as iOS apps will no longer be subject to hefty fees on payments made outside the app.

Crypto app developers can now redirect users to payments outside of Apple's environment, without restrictions or high fees. This development follows a ruling by a U.S. federal court in the antitrust dispute between Apple and Epic Games.

"The court finds that Apple willfully violated the court's 2021 injunction, which sought to restrict and prohibit Apple's anticompetitive behavior and pricing. Apple's continued attempts to interfere with competition will not be tolerated," U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers said in a document filed on April 30.
