EU Drops the Hammer on Privacy Coins!

Big news from Europe: the EU just passed new rules that officially ban privacy coins like Monero, Zcash, and Dash starting July 1, 2027. That’s right — under the new Anti-Money Laundering Regulation (AMLR), banks and crypto services won’t be allowed to handle anonymous accounts or support any privacy-focused crypto.

On top of that, any crypto transaction over €1,000 will require ID verification. And to make sure everyone plays by the rules, the EU is rolling out a new watchdog — the Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) — to keep an eye on the biggest crypto players.

Supporters say this move will help stop shady deals and bring more transparency to the space. But privacy advocates are raising red flags, warning this could crush financial privacy and hurt people who rely on these tools for legit reasons — like activists and journalists in repressive countries.

One thing’s for sure: this is a major shift, and it’s putting Europe front and center in the global fight over privacy in crypto.
