EU Privacy Ban

The European Union has considered various privacy measures, including a

ban on facial recognition in public spaces and restrictions on

cryptocurrency transactions.

In June 2021, Europe's privacy watchdogs called for a ban on facial

recognition technology in public areas, arguing that it poses significant privacy

risks.

Additionally, the EU has proposed rules that would require identification

for all cryptocurrency transactions, regardless of size, which has been

criticized by the crypto industry for potentially stifling innovation and

invading privacy.48 Furthermore, the EU's privacy watchdog, the EDPS, has

urged a ban on the Pegasus spyware to protect fundamental rights and

freedoms.

These measures reflect the EU's commitment to strengthening data

protection and privacy rights.
