The European Union (EU) is preparing to develop a comprehensive set of regulations on anti-money laundering (AMLR), including a complete ban on private tokens (also known as privacy coins) such as Monero (XMR) and Zcash (ZEC) as anonymous cryptocurrency accounts starting in 2027. According to Article 79 of the AMLR published by the European Crypto Initiative (EUCI), banks, financial institutions, and crypto asset service providers (CASPs) will not be allowed to maintain anonymous accounts or process transactions involving tokens with anonymity features. This regulation also extends to other types:

Bank accounts.

E-wallets.

Savings accounts and safety deposit boxes.
