What is a blockchain?

Simple explanation with examples

You have probably heard the term blockchain, but what does it really mean?

Imagine a public ledger, where everyone can see and verify each transaction. Each page of that ledger is a “block” and each block is connected to the previous one, forming a “chain.” This is how blockchain was born: a decentralized, secure, and transparent database.

When I started in crypto, I didn’t have much money on Binance, but I had a strong desire to learn. Understanding how blockchain works helped me gain confidence in this new system.

For example, if Juan sends 1 BTC to María, that transaction is recorded in a block validated by thousands of computers. Once added to the chain, it cannot be modified. This eliminates the need to trust a bank or intermediary.

Since then, I see blockchain as a powerful tool not just for money, but for contracts, digital identity, and more.
