Oh friends who are starting to enter the world of decentralized Web 3 wallets (like MetaMask, Trust Wallet, and others)! 👋 Excellent step! But there's a very common mistake that can cause your money to be "locked" in the wallet without being able to use it...

What is this frustrating scenario?

The scenario is as follows: You withdraw coins (like USDT, SHIB, or any other token) from Binance, for example, to your Web 3 wallet on a specific network (let's say the Polygon network). The money arrives in the wallet... great! ✅

Then you decide you want to send these coins to someone else, or use them in a decentralized application (dApp), or swap for another coin... and you are surprised that the operation refuses to complete! An error message pops up, or the transaction remains Pending and does not complete! 😩

Why does this happen? The secret lies in "gas" and the native currency of the network!

Imagine that each blockchain network is an independent "highway," and every operation you perform on this highway (sending coins, using an app, smart contract) needs "fuel" for the car (your transaction) to move on this highway. This fuel is what we call "gas fees."

More importantly, this fuel must be paid with the "native" or original currency of the same network you are using!

* On the Ethereum network (Ethereum - ERC20), the fuel is the ETH currency.

* On the Binance Smart Chain (BNB Chain - BEP20), the fuel is the BNB currency.

* On the Polygon network, the fuel is the MATIC currency.

* On the Avalanche network (Avalanche C-Chain), the fuel is the AVAX currency.

* And so it is for every independent blockchain network.

The most important warning: Your money gets locked if there's no "fuel"!

If you send your tokens (like USDT) to a Web 3 wallet on a specific network (like Polygon) but forget to send a small amount of the native currency of that network (i.e., MATIC in the case of Polygon), unfortunately, you won't be able to perform any operations that require gas fees on that network!

Your tokens are indeed in the wallet, but there's no "fuel" to move or use them for anything. It's like having a gasoline car but no drop of gas in the tank! ⛽️

Practical advice before any transfer to a Web 3 wallet:

* Specify the network you will send to (e.g., Polygon).

* What is the native currency that this network uses for gas (e.g., MATIC for the Polygon network).

* Before or with the first token transfer on this network, also send a small amount of the native currency for gas (e.g., a little MATIC) to ensure you have enough balance to pay future fees.

A little planning can save you a lot of frustration and help you avoid the "money locking" issue altogether.

Always keep a small balance of the native currency of the network you are using in your Web 3 wallets to remain in control of your assets and be able to transact whenever you want!
