#AppleCryptoUpdate Apple softens the rules for apps related to cryptocurrencies, something "very positive" for the industry.
The court ruling is "absolutely important for cryptocurrencies," says a cryptocurrency commentator, as iOS apps will no longer be affected by the high charge for in-app purchases. Cryptocurrency app developers now have the freedom to direct users to payments outside of the Apple ecosystem without restrictions or high fees, after a U.S. district judge ruled that Apple violated a court order in its antitrust legal battle against Epic Games.
The Court declares that Apple has deliberately violated the 2021 Court Order, issued to restrict and prohibit Apple's anti-competitive conduct and pricing. Ongoing attempts by Apple to interfere with competition will not be tolerated, declared federal district judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in a filing made to the court on April 30.
Apple must implement changes "immediately"
"From now on, Apple will no longer hinder developers' ability to communicate with users, nor will it charge or impose a new fee for out-of-app purchases," added Rogers.
Rogers reiterated: "This is a court order, not a negotiation. There are no second chances if one of the parties willfully disregards a court order. Time is of the essence."
